Dracula's Nest - Poenari Fortress Day Tour by Eddie - Private Tour

Dracula, Wallachia, legend and mystery. The ruins of Poenari Fortress - the only one built by Vlad the Impaler

The legend says that Poenari Fortress was erected in only one week.

Wallachia  - more than 500 years ago, somewhere deep in the Carpathian Mountains. Vlad the Impaler commands this work to his boyars - as a punishment. And in order to make himself clear, first he impales some of them.

He personally chose where to build the fortress, upon a mountain peak, close to the Wallachian-Transylvanian border. The fortress  - dubbed The Eagle Nest - served him as a last line of defence against the Ottomans and as an escape way to Transylvania, over the mountains.

Besides the ruins of this fascinating fortress we are going to visit Curtea de Arges Monastery, with its unique cathedral and royal necropolis and Vidraru Dam, top 5 in Europe with its 166 meters height.

Let's grab some garlic and  go on Dracula's footsteps!

When you shouldn't book a tour with us..

At Eddex Travel, we highly value common sense, courtesy, and modesty, placing great importance on the good spirits of the travelers and their accompanying guide. And we are pleased to find that, in the vast majority of cases, these values are reflected in our interactions with our tourists.  However, if you find yourself in the examples below (or similar) it might be best not to book a tour with us, because the quality of the tour and time spent together would suffer, preventing us from truly enjoying the journey:

  • Punctuality when needed - we are very flexible during our tours, and whenever we know is possible, we might slightly extend your free time, lunch breaks, etc. However, when we ask you to be present at the exact time scheduled for departure or for some of the pick-ups along the way (we are usually flexible regarding less important pick-ups), please make every effort to adhere to that schedule. We recall a tourist who, after being 10–15 minutes late for the hotel pick-up (after which time we may decide to cancel the tour), asked us to wait a little longer, because he wanted to buy a coffee 🙂 . Naturally, we did not agree. Furthermore, drinking coffee in the car would not have been allowed. The fact that you book a private tour with us does not exempt you from being punctual, when needed.
  • Mutual respect - since you expect from us to be polite, we expect the same from you. Please use a polite tone with the guide and refrain from making demands for additional services—services that were neither requested nor paid for at the time of booking—as these can complicate the tour or make it stressful and less enjoyable. You may politely ask if certain things would be possible, but please do not give us commands. Of course, restroom emergencies can arise, but please don't ask us to stop for a breakfast break (which is not included) just an hour after leaving the hotel 🙂 , if this is not part of our tour schedule, and would make the tour schedule difficult. We can offer (as a bonus, and if possible) this breakfast break if it doesn't affect the tour schedule, or if you agree to skip other sights included in the itinerary. The fact that you book a private tour with us does not exempt you from the need to respect us and be polite.
  • Compliance with the tour rules - private tours have rules too. Thus, for instance, if we ask you to come with a maximum of 3 pieces of luggage of a certain size (we could agree on a higher number, depending on which transportation vehicle is included in your package), please don't bring 5, because you put us in a very difficult and unpleasant situation. Moreover, if we ask you to leave the extra luggage that you have brought, in the hotel's luggage room, please comply and don't reject this option, on the grounds that you have expensive shoes in your luggage 🙂 . The fact that you book a private tour with us does not exempt you from the obligation to comply with the agreed-upon rules and conditions.

Thank you and let's make our tours a great experience for both parties.
